Law 101, Part 1: What Start-Ups Need to Know About Raising Capital

This informative program will focus on three key aspects of funding for start-ups: (a) means of raising capital; (b) latest trends in raising capital; and (c) securities compliance issues. Specifically, the program will discuss the types of investors available to start-ups, how to locate them and the business and legal documentation needed to attract investors. Attorney Karl D. Chandler, chair of the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions group, has been a business and corporate attorney for more than 30 years. He advises clients in a broad range of industries, including technology start-up companies, manufacturers, professionals, contractors, importers, and distributors. His clients benefit from his expertise in all aspects of business and corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, private securities offerings, entity formation, corporate governance, and contracts. Mr. Chandler has represented numerous technology startup companies, including companies engaged in the manufacture and sale of semiconductors, computer network equipment, and test equipment, computer software development and licensing, Internet-based sales of products and services, and biotechnology.
Attorney Derek Y. Chien is in the firm’s Corporate and Intellectual Property practice groups.
